From the powerful dragon to the soaring phoenix, for thousands of years, humans everywheresometimes inspired by living animals or even fossilshave brought mythic creatures to life in stories, songs and works of art. Today these creatures continue to thrill, terrify, entertain and inspire us. Encounter legendary creatures from around the world represented in paintings, sculpture, engravings, and other cultural objects. See the formidable griffin, the gigantic Kraken and mysterious mermaids from myriad cultures. Together mythic creatures give shape to humankind's greatest hopes, fears and most passionate dreams.
