Now The Field Museum offers a wonderful new hands-on learning center that encourages children’s explorations and creative play: the Crown Family PlayLab, specially designed for families with children ages 2 to 6, with activities adaptable up to age 10. The PlayLab starts with a child’s innate curiosity and a family-friendly environment, adds real artifacts and specimens, and lets young explorers use a variety of learning styles to discover the wonders of nature and the diversity of cultures around the world. It includes six unique areas: An Illinois Woodland, a 3-dimensional diorama where children can become animals and star in their own nature play. The Pueblo, another immersive environment where children discover how families in other cultures lived. The Scientists’ Lab, where junior scientists can measure, sort, and magnify all sorts of specimens and artifacts. The Dinosaur Field Station, where kids can play in a dinosaur nest, dig a dinosaur bone out of a field jacket, and much more. The Rhythm Section, with percussion instruments to play and rhythms from a variety of cultures to dance to. The Art Studio, where docents guide children in creative projects inspired by nature and culture. Location: The Field Museum 1400 S.
