Earthquakes. Tornadoes. Hurricanes. Volcanic eruptions. Tsunamis. From California to Krakatoa, these immense forces of geology and weather have shaped our planet and our world. How do they affect us, and how do we respond? Can we prevent them? Should we even try?

These natural events, which have occurred through the centuries since the planet’s formation, are caused by the forces behind Earth's geology and meteorology. While human beings cannot stop these forces, our actions can have a strong impact on how damaging they are to us when they happen.
