| Databases In the interest of making results of and background for our research widely available, we present the following data listings and queryable databases. These are based on more than 20 years of work, primarily by coPI Newton, drawing on primary literature as well as catalogs and other secondary sources noted under some databases. It is our intent to update these as needed at least once a year, so that they are as complete and current as possible. Selected or all records can be downloaded from any of the three databases for offline research, research-collection, or personal use, but may not be used otherwise nor commercially without explicit permission and appropriate acknowledgement. A suggested form of citation is provided for each database. The classification of superfamilies, families and subfamilies used here follows the Coleoptera classification of Lawrence & Newton (1995). Below the subfamily level, the classification is based on Newton & Thayer (1992), as modified by Newton & Thayer (1995) and other recent publications, as detailed on the entry page for each database. Distributions of genera and species in the queryable catalog databases are indicated both by a text description and by a series of regional check-off fields. The latter can be used to select taxa recorded from one or more particular regions. The system of 12 regions used here is shown in this map and assignment of potentially ambiguous islands to regions is shown here. These are also included in the full documentation of all the databases. All of the more than 4300 references to original or other literature in the databases and distribution list are linked to entries in the bibliography through a unique reference number labeled "RefNo". The full original reference for each name is shown in the detailed query results.
