COMMON NAME—
Oriental small-clawed otter

DISTRIBUTION—
India to Taiwan and Java; Philippine records from Palawan Island only (FMNH).

HABITAT—
Along coastal rivers and bays (Sanborn, 1952).

STATUS—
Widespread, but limited distribution within Philippines; probably uncommon

COMMENT—Amblonyx was recognized as a valid genus, rather than a subgenus of Aonyx, by Wozencraft (1993).

COMMENT ADDED IN 2005––Reported to be sighted fairly frequently along beaches and lower portions of rivers on Palawan Island (Esselstyn et al., 2004).
