ORDER—RODENTIA
FAMILY—Muridae

COMMON NAME—Mindanao hairy-tailed rat.

DISTRIBUTION— Mindanao Faunal Region; records from Biliran (USNM), Leyte (USNM), Mindanao [Bukidnon (FMNH)].

HABITAT—On Leyte, common in montane and ridgetop mossy primary forest from 700 m to 950 m, uncommon at 500 m in lowland forest on Leyte (Heaney et al., 1989; Rickart et al., 1993); on Mt. Kitanglad, Mindanao, moderately common in montane and mossy forest from 1600 m to 2375 m (Heaney et al., in prep.).

STATUS—
Probably widespread and common in primary montane and mossy forest.

COMMENTMindanaomys is considered to be a synonym of Batomys (Musser and Heaney, 1992).
