Crocidura palawanensis

ORDER—INSECTIVORA
FAMILY—Soricidae

COMMON NAME—Palawan shrew.

DISTRIBUTION—Endemic to the Palawan Faunal Region. Records are from Palawan (FMNH) and Balabac (USNM) islands.

HABITAT—The holotype was taken “in deep forest near the sea”  (Taylor, 1934). Also taken in shrubby second growth at ca. 400 m (Hoogstraal, 1951). The closely related C. fuliginosa occurs in forest over a broad elevational range (Payne et al., 1985).

STATUS—
Unknown; geographically restricted to an area undergoing rapid deforestation. Surveys are needed. IUCN: Vulnerable.
