ORDER—CHIROPTERA
FAMILY—Vespertilionidae

COMMON NAME—Whiskered myotis.

DISTRIBUTION—Afghanistan to New Guinea; throughout the Philippines. Recorded from Biliran (UMMZ), Busuanga (FMNH), Leyte (USNM), Luzon (Laguna [AMNH], and Rizal [AMNH] provinces), Maripipi (Cotabato [AMNH]), Maripipi (USNM), Negros (FMNH).

HABITAT— In primary and secondary lowland and montane forest from near sea level to 1125 m (Rickart et al., 1993; Heaney et al., in press, unpubl. data).

STATUS—
Common and widespread in Asia.

COMMENT
Includes M. browni, M. herrei, and M. patriciae (Koopman, 1993).

COMMENT ADDED IN 2005––Specimens from Culion Id. and Camarines Sur Prov., Luzon previously referred to this species are now considered to represent Myotis ater. The specimen previously reported from Bukidnon, Mindanao is of uncertain identity.

NOTE ADDED IN 2005--Documented in montane forest at 1,600 m elevation in Balbalasang, Kalinga Province (Heaney et al, 2004)
