Philippines; throughout the Philippines. Specimens from Camiguin (FMNH),
Luzon [Benguet (FMNH), Cagayan (FMNH), Camarines Sur (FMNH), Isabela (FMNH),
Laguna (FMNH), Quezon (UMMZ), and Rizal (FMNH) provinces], Mindanao [Bukidnon
(FMNH), and Davao del Sur (FMNH) provinces], Mindoro (FMNH), Negros (FMNH),
Palawan (FMNH), Panay (USNM), Reinhard (UMMZ), and Sibuyan (FMNH).
HABITATCommon
in primary montane forest, uncommon in primary lowland and mossy forest,
from sea level to 1750 m (Sanborn
et al., 1952; Heaney et al.,
in press, unpubl. data).
STATUSModerately common and
widespread in eastern Asia.
COMMENTPrevious
reports of P. imbricatus from the Philippines all appear to be
based on specimens of this species.
NOTE ADDED IN 2005--Documented in montane forest from 925-1,600 m elevation in Balbalasang, Kalinga Province (Heaney et al, 2004). Preliminary evidence indicates that two or more cryptic species are present in the Philippines that have been identified as P. javanicus (J. Sedlock and L. Heaney, unpublished data).
