ORDER—CHIROPTERA
FAMILY—Pteropodidae

COMMON NAME—Ryukyu flying fox, wooly flying fox.

DISTRIBUTION—
Ryukyu island group to Taiwan and the Batanes/Babuyan region; in the Philippines, recorded on Batan (USNM), Dalupiri (FMNH), and Fuga (FMNH).

HABITAT—Reported to be common in forest on the Batanes and Babuyan islands, but poorly known (Ingle &Heaney, 1992; Utzurrum, 1992; Ross, pers. comm.).

STATUS—Uncertain. Previously known populations are considered endangered to varying degrees (Mickileburgh et al., 1992). The Philippine population probably is the largest for the species. IUCN: Endangered. CITES: Appendix II.
