ORDER—RODENTIA
FAMILY—Muridae

COMMON NAME—Luzon short-nosed rat.

DISTRIBUTION—Luzon Faunal Region; known only from Benguet (FMNH), Laguna (USNM), and Tarlac (USNM).

HABITAT—
Mossy forest at about 2500 m in the Central Cordillera (Miller, 1910; Rabor, 1955) and in the lower parts of Mt. Makiling (ca. 100-350 m) (Barbehenn et al., 1973).

STATUS—Uncommon but widespread in central Luzon (Musser, 1982b). IUCN: Vulnerable.

COMMENTThe genus Tryphomys was reviewed and redefined by Musser and Newcomb (1983) and Musser and Heaney (1992).
