The activities on this site were designed to help you meet national standards. For your convenience, we have outlined both the national environmental education guidelines for learning and the national science education standards that Project E.R. fulfills.

Excellence in Environmental Education K-4th Grade Guidelines for Learning from the North American Association for Environmental Education

Strand 1 – Questioning and Analysis Skills

  • Able to ask questions, speculate and hypothesize
  • Able to seek information and develop answers to their questions

Strand 1 A – Develop Questions to Learn about the Environment

  • Able to develop questions that help them learn about the environment and do simple investigations

Strand 2 – Knowledge of Environmental Processes and Systems

  • Able to understand the processes and systems that comprise the environment

Strand 2.1 A – The Earth as a Physical System

  • Able to identify changes and differences in the physical environment

Strand 2.2 A – The Living Environment

  • Understands basic similarities and differences among a wide variety of living organisms

Strand 2.2 C – The Living Environment

  • Understands basic ways in which organisms are related to their environments and to other organisms

Strand 2.4 A – Environment and Society

  • Understands that people depend on, change, and are affected by the environment

Strand 3 – Skills for Understanding and Addressing Environmental Issues

  • Able to define, learn about, evaluate and act on environmental issues

Strand 3.1 A, B, C - Skills for Analyzing and Investigating Environmental Issues

  • Able to identify and investigate issues in their local environments and communities
  • Understands that environmental and social phenomena are linked and can explore the consequences of issues
  • Understands there are many approaches to resolving issues

Strand 4 – Personal and Civic Responsibility

  • Able to act on own conclusions and understand that individuals can make a difference

Science as Inquiry
