Among The Field Museum's Southeast Asia collections is an assemblage from Indonesia and Malaysia that highlights visual and performance arts: textiles, dramatic props, and one of the finest gamelans (an orchestra of chimes and percussion instruments) outside Java. Materials from the Orang Asli hunter-gatherers of the Malay Peninsula, as well as iron and steel weapons and ikat and batik textiles from other parts of the region, bear witness to indigenous lifeways. |
