Toba Batak women weaving in their native village near Taroentung, north central Sumatra. This photograph was taken by Department of Anthropology assistant curator Fay-Cooper Cole during the Arthur B. Jones Expedition to Malaysia in 1922-1924. Cole led the expedition which collected some 400 objects from the Toba Batak tribe, including examples of their industries together with the complete front of a carved house.
