This beaded chief's crown from Nigeria was the gift of Deborah Stokes and Jeffrey Hammer in 1995. The Stokes/Hammer donation of Yoruba beadwork and West African art and contemporary objects is the largest to the Museum’s African holdings since that of Captain A.W.F. Fuller in the 1960s. The Museum has received numerous gifts of private collections since its founding in 1893. Continued donations from individual collectors help to build the collections for the benefit of future generations.
