Of the over 3,500 East Asian artifacts gathered by the Boones, some are from Korea. This collection was acquired in Japan and it consists of objects from the Koryo (936-1392 AD) and Yi (1392-1910 AD) dynasties. Although the collection includes several non-ceramic objects, most are different types of ceramics ranging from water droppers to bowls. One example is this celadon bowl. It is of a blue-green color, with underglaze floral designs, a unique characteristic of Koryo celadons. Celadon wares with pictorial underglaze decoration occupy a central position in the development of Koryo ceramics. The Boones' Korean collection also includes other bowls and plates from the Koryo dynasty .
In total, there are approximately 650 Korean objects in The Field Museum. Many were acquired as gifts to the Museum from H. N. Higinbotham in 1899. The official Korean Commission from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition also added 38 objects to the collection that were exhibited at the Fair. The Korean collection in the Field Museum contains several royal costumes, among them an imperial bridal robe and a jacket worn by King Kojong (1852-1919 AD). The collection comprises some 160 costume items, 110 coin charms, and a wide array of ceramics, ornaments, and armaments.
