Wild Silk, Island Fibers: Rare Textiles from Madagascar
9 objects 2/2003-7/2003
There can be no doubt that Madagascar once had one of the great weaving and dyeing traditions of the world. However, the traditional art of textile fabrication has died out in many parts of Madagascar, and the remarkable heritage is now endangered to the point of extinction. The few surviving specimens are preserved primarily in museums. The Fowler Museum at UCLA showcased a collection of these precious textiles in Wild Silk, Island Fibers: Rare Textiles from Madagascar.
