The Huron Mountains (N 46º 53'; W 87º 52') |

| The Huron Mountains, located on the shore of Lake Superior in Marquette County, Michigan, northeastern U.S., are characterized by their boreal vegetation and unusually diverse habitats. The Huron Mountains are the largest remnant of substantially undisturbed old-growth forest in the upper Great Lakes region. Forests on the uplands of Huron Mountains are dominated by hemlock and northern hardwoods. Forests on the steep slopes and mountain ridges are dominated by pine-oak stands. Each of these two major forest types is represented by a sampling plot. Our field work in this area is in part supported by the Huron Mountain Wildlife Foundation. |
