Rehm (1916: 2939) placed this name as a synonym of Astrocystis mirabilis, but Diehl (1925: 187) stated that the stromal characters are not the same in these species. Laessøe & Spooner (1994: 29) believe it may be a further, unclarified species of Astrocystis.

    disjunctum Rehm, Hypoxylon Philipp. J. Sci 8: 187 (1913a).
  • Type: "Hypoxylon bambusae Rehm n.sp. 14/X 1912", Philippines, Luzon, Laguna Prov., Los Baños, on dead culms of Bambusa blumeana, leg. C.F. Baker 15a (S!).
Ju & Rogers (1996: 266) informed that there is no type material in S. However, we found material there filed as "Hypoxylon bambusae". For some reason Rehm changed the name from Hypoxylon bambusae to Hypoxylon disjunctum on the label and then described it under that latter name. The host is stated to be Bambusa blumeana in the protologue, but the material is old and not easy to identify. The perithecia are superficial on old sticks. They are densely crowded and covered by a reddish-brown pruina. The asci have an I+ blue ring and the ascospores measure c. 12 x 5 µm, but the material is not in a perfect condition.
