The asci have an I+ blue ring. The spores are two-celled, with one of the cell seen as a hyaline cellular appendage The brown inequilateral cell measures c. 17-20 x 7-8 ?µm. The septum and the pointed end are distinctly thicker than the rest of the wall. The dwarf cell measures c. 3 x 3 ?µm.

The ascomal wall is not dark brown to black, as maintained in the protologue, but dark reddish brown and turning blueish dark brown with KOH (Yue & Eriksson 1989), as in many other Botryosphaeria species.
