BIOLOGICAL SCREENING The possibility of including lichens in the current biological screening program of INBio was discussed with Nefertiti Campos, supervisor of a bioprospection study at INBio looking for anti-Chagas agents in fungi. We are presently checking the possibilities of setting up the necessary bioessays in the facilities of INBio, in collaboration with the group of Carlos Vicente from Complutense University in Madrid, Spain.

CHIRRIPÓ CLOUDBRIDGE RESERVE... Following our first field trip to Costa Rica in 2002, Daniela Lizano and her student fellows from the University of Costa Rica accepted an invitation of Ian Giddy to visit the Chirripó Cloudbridge Reserve near San Gerardo de Rivas. The group made some initial lichen collections, and the site has been found to be highly interesting for further research on its lichen biota. For information on this beautiful place, visit the Cloudbridge website.
