Training - Student Thesis

Starting in 2004, a master's thesis will be carried out by Daniela Lizano, under the supervision of Julieta Carranza (Universidad de Costa Rica, Escuela de Biología) and Robert Lücking. Daniela will be comparing the lichen diversity of experimental reforestation plots of the long-term HUERTOS project with undisturbed lowland rainforest at La Selva Biological Station. Daniela is currently finishing her Bachelor degree at UCR, and in the meanwhile, she is working in a project studying the lichen diversity of a small forest remnant within the campus of the University of Costa Rica. Another student at UCR, Yi-men Araya, is undertaking a small project comparing the corticolous lichen flora on two tree species with different bark characteristics. Robert Lücking is also co-advisor of the master's thesis of Gavriele Muro at the Universidad Nacional de Heredia. Gavriele is investigating the effects of volcanic gases on the lichen diversity of Poas and Irazú volcanos.
