Earth Force

Site Selection
  • Choose an area that the students feel they are stakeholders, a place within walking distance or that the students see or pass through often. – Susan Rangel, Washington Elementary
Student Preparation & Involvement
  • Taking a tour of local environmental areas is very useful. It gives the students reference points and also something to compare their "chosen area" to. Team-building activities were very useful to help students work cooperatively and comfortably. – Nancy Viteri, Washington Elementary
Curriculum Integration
  • You can incorporate Earth Force with language arts from collecting data to writing reflections on a walking field trip to producing a survey for local residents. Students took complete ownership of our survey and cover letter. – Sandra Martinez, Marsh Elementary
Supplemental Materials
  • Earth Force staff can be very helpful. They are willing to come out and guide the students in their project. Julie and John have a wealth of information to share with the children and can direct you to many useful resources. – Audra Kreger, Washington Elementary
  • The assistant State’s Attorney’s office provides speakers on the environment. I had a speaker talk to my class about environmental crimes and what can be done about them from a legal point of view. He provided my students with the names and phone numbers of organizations that investigate environmental crimes. – Betty Petrassi, Washington Elementary
  • Use your alderman’s office! – Nancy Viteri, Washington Elementary
