The Life and Times of the Calumet Region: A 14,000 Year Odyssey

This 1881 Army Corps of Engineers map depicts some of the shallow lakes of the Calumet region ( from left to right: Lake Calumet, Hyde Lake, Wolf Lake, Lake George, and Deer Lake), which have since been altered by development. Much of Lake Calumet has been filled in, and many of the extensive wetlands, which stretched to the Calumet River, have been eliminated. Hyde Lake and Deer Lake have been filled in for development and are gone.
