Medinilla magnifica.
This model, based on a specimen collected in the Philippines, represents an ornamental from the Melastomataceae family. This family has a wide distribution throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, but its greatest diversity is in South America. In Southeast Asia, several other species in the Medinilla genus have uses as remedies for flesh wounds and upset stomachs.
