Trade caravan north of the Persian Gulf,
By Julius Moessel |
In the September 1940 Field Museum News, Chief Botany Curator B.E. Dahlgren suggested that the murals constituted Moessel's "most significant single piece of work." While critics possessing a broader familiarity with Moessel's work might disagree with this assessment, collectively the murals must surely rank as one of the artist's most ambitious projects. In these eighteen murals, visitors to the Plants of the World can "read" the story of food plants, witness the talent of an artist once regarded as Chicago's finest muralist, and experience a significant moment in the annals of Chicago art.
