Finn Surlyk, Ph.D. Professor (Geology of Sedimentary Basins), University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Finn was awarded his Ph.D. by the University of Copenhagen, and is now Professor there, having in the interim been a researcher and Head of Department at the Geological Survey of Greenland. Throughout his career, Finn has been awarded many accolades, among which are included the Gold Medal of the University of Copenhagen, and the position of Ridder af Dannebrogordenen (Knight of the Order of Dannebrog).
Finn is a stratigrapher, clastic and carbonate sedimentologist, and paleoecologist, whose main interests include sequence stratigraphy, sediment remobilization and intrusion, sediment gravity flows, chalk paleoceanography, and the great period boundaries and associated events, notably the Permian-Triassic, the Triassic-Jurassic and the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundaries. Finn is also interested in petroleum geology, notably outcrop analogues for clastic reservoirs.
