Jennifer McElwain, Ph.D. Associate Curator, Fossil Plants, The Field Museum.
Jennifer graduated from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and was awarded a Ph.D. in Paleobotany by the University of London, England. Before joining the Field Museum in 2000, she undertook three years of postdoctoral research at the University of Sheffield, funded by the NERC and the Leverhulme Trust. Her research is primarily focused on understanding interactions between the biosphere (plants) and atmosphere (mainly carbon dioxide), on geological time scales. She uses fossil plants to reconstruct past changes in the composition of the atmosphere, and studies the role of greenhouse gasses in global climate change, particularly global warming and plant evolution. She has recently co-authored a university text book, The Evolution of Plants, published by Oxford University Press.
