1998 - Departure of Lab Manager Lee Weigt.

If there was a downside to 1998 for the lab, it was the loss of lab manager Lee Weigt, who followed his wife, a veterinarian, to Virginia so she could enter a residency program in opthamology. As an interim solution, Dr. Joseph Walsh, a former lab user, who had recently finished his Ph.D. on evolution in Philippine bats at the University of Chicago, ably filled the position. Our search for Lee's replacement lead to the hiring of Dr. Lutz Bachmann, an experienced researcher from Germany. In between Joe and the arrival of Lutz, the lab manager position was in the capable hands of University of Chicago graduate student Amy Driskell. Amy agreed help out when Joe took a teaching position at Northwestern University in January 1999.
