Current Research:
My dissertation research focused on variation and evolution of reproductive and vocal behaviors in the primarily Neotropical family Troglodytidae (Aves). In general, I am interested in examining variation in behavior among evolutionary lineages at various levels in the context of the historical relationships among those lineages. At the intergeneric level within wrens, I am using mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequence data to infer phylogenetic relationships and using those relationships to infer the evolutionary history of duetting and cooperative breeding within the wrens and their close relatives. At a finer scale, I am using mitochondrial DNA sequences to infer relationships among species in one genus of wrens, Campylorhynchus, in order to examine the covariation of degrees of social behavior and environmental factors within the genus.
