Education:
M. Sc. in the program of Ecology, Evolution and Systematics at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. 1995.
B. Sc. from the Biology Department at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. 1989.
Research Interests:
Ecology, evolution, and biogeography of Neotropical birds
Current Research:
I am currently studying a group of birds that has diversified in the Atlantic forests of Brazil. They belong to the antbird family and most species are associated with bamboo patches in forested regions. I am studying several aspects of these antbirds: their evolutionary history (with molecular techniques), their ecological requirements (with field work), and their distributional patterns (with geographic information systems maps). By integrating the fields of evolutionary biology, ecology, and biogeography, I hope to understand how diversification occurred in this group and how their evolutionary history relates to current patterns of ecology and distribution.
