Current Research:
- Johnny was a research assistant for Dr. John J. Flynn, MacArthur Curator, Chairman, Department of Geology of the Field Museum. He worked on a study of the evolution of the mammal group, Carnivora. This group includes civets, mongooses, cats, dogs, bears, racoons, weasels, skunks, seals, sea lions, and walruses. Johnny helped to generate and analyze DNA sequences for the Carnivora study. Projects that he worked on included looking at interordinal relationships between Carnivora and other mammalian orders, a study on Malagasy mongooses, and a study on the relationship between skunks and the weasel family. In May of 1998, Johnny completed an honors thesis entitled "Monophyly of Mustelidae" and was able to present his findings at the 1998 SSE/ASN/SSB Evolution Meetings.
