July 2004-September 2004.

Mithilesh K. Pathak

During his stay, Mithilesh, along with Drs. Arun Pandey and Jun Wen, conducted research on evolution of Araliaceae in India using molecular markers. In India the family is represented by 15 genera distributed mostly in north and north eastern region and the taxonomy of Indian Araliaceae is highly controversial. A molecular systematic study of Aralia and Panax in India has provided interesting results. This is a pilot molecular systematic study for plants in India using DNA markers and phylogenetic methods.
