| Summer 2006 Eduardo Portes Eduardo is using mitochondrial DNA sequence data to reconstruct the phylogenetic relationships among the Campylorhamphus woodcreepers (Scythebills). The taxonomy and species limits of this group of brown streaky birds with long down curved bills are confusing and are in need of revision. Eduardo is comparing the molecular data collected here in the Pritzker lab to morphometric and vocal data to clarify species limits in this group. Data collected for this detailed systematic study will help to disentangle the cryptic biodiversity found in this group and will in general help us to understand general patterns of evolutionary history in the Neotropics. |
