BugCamp 1998

With the third BugCamp came the opportunity to conduct a survey of insect diversity at Ryerson Woods. To collect insects from the grass, soil, and air, we employed three methods of collecting: sweep nets, pitfall traps, and malaise traps. The students compared the abundance of insects collected with each technique in three fields of different sizes. As an additional component of BugCamp, teacher Preckwinkle and a former BugCamp student, Andrew Greenlee, learned basic biochemistry techniques in Ballard's Drosophila laboratory.
