Facts, Theory, Speculation: Theory

Theories are possible explanations for why things are the way they are. You can test a theory by gathering evidence that either disproves or supports it.

Dinosaur science has lots of theories. Every time a new dinosaur discovery--like Sue--is studied, some theories become stronger, while others become weaker, or even are disproved altogether.

Theory: Sue was an old T. rex

Why do we think so? Many of the bones in Sue’s skeleton show signs of old age. As animals grow, their bones undergo changes: some wear down, others fuse together, still others develop bony calluses.
