South Pare Mountains

The South Pares are in Kilimanjaro Region, Same District.  The largest forest reserve in this montane area is Chome Forest Reserve, extending from 4º 10’ to 4º 25’ S and 37º 53’ to 38º 00’E.  The highest point of the South Pares is Mt. Shengana at 2463 m and this peak is within Chome forest.  Gonja Forest Reserve is at the eastern base of the South Pares at approximately 500 m.
