On the wonder of taxidermy

Given our efforts in renovating the Ronald and Christina Gidwitz Hall of Hall of Birds and the great reception it has received upon reopening, I wanted to write something more about taxidermy.  A new book recently appeared in print entitled The Breathless Zoo by Rachel Poliquin.  It is a history of taxidermy and in that sense a lot of research went into the book.  However, Poliquin and I do not share the same feelings about taxidermy, which I found disappointing.  Included in the book is the follwoing from a placard she found at the Natural History Museum in the

New ASTC: Travel Passport Program List

Members -  As part of your benefits as a Field Museum member, you receive free basic admission to 200+ science and technology Museum worlwide! The new list that is valid beginning today, November 1, 2012 through April 30, 2013 is now available for you. This ASTC list is a tool for you as our member to know which institutions you can take your membership card to and recevie free or discounted admission. Please note: There are restricitons that apply to Museums that are within 90 miles of The Field Museum and also residency restrictions.

Join us this weekend in The Crown Family PlayLab

  Calling all artists! Join us in the Crown Family PlayLab as we participate in The Big Draw Chicago, a citywide program that invites people of all ages to draw, think and share. Begin the day at the East Entrance just outside of the PlayLab and create your own sketchbook. Take it along with you as you meet and work with local artists throughout the Museum on a drawing scavenger hunt.   This event is included with basic admission and is FREE for MEMBERS!!! We hope to see you this weekend!
