Where in the World do we get potatoes? | Planting Potatoes | Harvesting | Post-Harvest Processing

Where in the world do we get potatoes?

Although native to the mountainous Andes, the potato now grows in many different environmental zones. It is almost more appropriate to ask “Where don’t potatoes grow?” Over 150 countries now grow potatoes. In fact, the World’s potato crop exceeds 300 billion metric tons. China and Russia are the leading potato producers. In the United States, Idaho and Washington are the top potato growers.

Fun fact:
The International Potato Center recognizes over 5,000 different varieties of potatoes.
