After processing, the sugar cane and sugar beet produce an identical crystalline end product. Almost everyone in the World knows how sugar tastes, but do you know where and how it grows?

Where in the World do we get Sugar?
In 2000, farmers produced enough sugar cane and sugar beets for over 1.25 billion tons of raw sugar! Brazil was the leading producer of sugar cane, and France grew the largest quantity of sugar beets.  In general, sugar cane producing areas are tropical/subtropical, and those growing sugar beets are temperate.

Fun Fact:
Sugar beets and sugar cane provide 90% of the World's sugar supply.  The remaining 10% come from other plant sources such as the sugar maple, palms and sorghum.
