Funerary Objects
Royalty and wealthy private citizens alike mummified the dead. Elite Egyptians acquired gilded coffins decorated with magical scenes and spells to protect the mummy. Both royal and private burials included canopic jars and chests for the preservation of viscera, and shabtis—figures that magically performed any labor required of the dead, allowing the deceased an afterlife of leisure.
