Purchasing Tickets

What is a timed-entry ticket?
When you purchase your tickets to Tutankhamun, you will be asked for a date and a time when you would like to see the exhibition. For example, if you have tickets for May 26, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., it means that you may enter at any time between 10:00 and 10:30. These times allow us to manage the number of people in the exhibition at any given time.
Please note that, while we strive to admit people to the exhibition during their scheduled entry times, there may be times when a delay becomes unavoidable.

Should I buy advance tickets for Tutankhamun?
We highly recommend that you doday-of tickets are first-come, first-served, and popular exhibitions can sell out early in the day.

Are there any Discount Days this summer?
The only days on which you can receive a discount on Basic Admission with your ticket to Tutankhamun are August 26-31, 2006. On other Discount Days, if you wish to purchase tickets to Tutankhamun, you will have to pay for both Basic Admission plus Tutankhamun.

I am a teacher/active duty military member. Can I use my ID to get my General Admission for free and also purchase a ticket to Tutankhamun?
If you would like to view the permanent collections free with your pass, you are welcome to do so. However, there are no discounts on tickets to Tutankhamun, and guests will be asked to pay full price. There will also be no AAA discounts offered on these tickets.

I have a Great Kids Museum Passport. Can I use it to purchase tickets to Tutankhamun?
You are welcome to view the permanent collection and the Underground Adventure with your Passport, but there are no discounts on tickets to Tutankhamun, and you will be asked to pay full price. There will also be no AAA discounts offered on these tickets.

Is there an audio guide for the exhibition?
Yes, there is. It costs $6.00 for non-member adults and $5.00 for members of the Museum and children under 12. We are also offering an audio guide designed specially for kids! Be sure to ask about it at the audio desk when you pick up your headphones.

Is there a written version of the audio guide for the hearing impaired?
Yes, there is. Please inquire at the audio guide desk when you arrive. The videos in the exhibition also feature closed captioning.

How do I get to the Museum by car?
Guests planning to drive to the Museum should be aware of the closure of the Dan Ryan Expressway beginning April 1, 2006. Please see our regular Planning Your Visit section for details.

I plan to drive to the Museum. Where should I park?
The main parking lot for the Museum is immediately south of the building, in Soldier Field. Please be aware that the garage is cash-only and pay-as-you-enter, and prepare accordingly before you arrive. There will be an ATM available in the garage for guests without cash in hand.

How can I get to the Museum via public transit?
Use the RTA’s Trip Planner, or call 836-7000 from any city or suburban area code (For those outside the Chicagoland area, please dial 312-836-7000). Further details are available here (link to FMNH web site in regular PYV section)
From Memorial Day to Labor Day, 10 am-6 pm, free trolleys will be running to the Museum as well. The Museum is serviced by the Green Triangle route.
Directions for parking during 2006-2007 Chicago Bears games will be posted later in the year. Access to the campus will be cut off, but shuttles will run from alternate parking locations.

What are the Museum’s hours?
We are open from 8:00-5:00 Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend, and 9:00 am5:00 pm from Labor Day to the end of the exhibition, January 1, 2007.

Will you be open late at any point during the exhibition?
We are offering a handful of Premium Nights, lasting from 5:30 pm-10:00 pm (last ticket entry at 8:30 pm), where guests can enjoy a special connoisseur viewing experience of the exhibition. Purchase your tickets online now!

When should I arrive at the Museum?
If you have purchased advance tickets, you are welcome to arrive any time after we open and view the permanent collections until your ticketed entry time. If you are picking up your tickets at will call, please be sure to allow 15-30 minutes wait time.
Guests who have arrived early are asked to go to the East Entrance in order to enter the line for Tutankhamun. Please wait to do so until a maximum of one hour before your scheduled entry time. Only guests for the current and next consecutive entry time will be allowed to enter the queue. Guests arriving late for their entry times will be put into the line for the next available entry time.
If you have not purchased advance tickets, we recommend that you arrive earlier in the day, as tickets are first-come, first-served.

Where should I go when I get to the Museum?
The East Entrance to the Museum (closest to Lake Michigan) has been designated the main entrance for visitors who wish to view Tutankhamun. School and adult groups, as well as premium and donor-level members, should consult their materials for directions.

How long should I expect to wait in line?
Ticket-holders to Tutankhamun may not get in line until a maximum of one hour before their time of entry. Signs will be posted throughout the lines to indicate wait time from various points.

Is there anywhere to eat in the Museum?
We have a McDonald’s and a Corner Bakery (featuring soup, sandwiches, and coffee) inside the Museum, as well as a variety of snack and soda vending options. Please note that guests must purchase admission to the Museum to eat at these restaurants.
Food options outside the Museum include the Museum Campus Cafe on the East side of the building as well as Kim and Carlo’s Hot Dogs on the South side.

What else is there to see in the Museum?
The Museum includes 35 world-class permanent exhibitions, including Evolving Planet, which features our newly renovated dinosaur halls, the Lions of Tsavo, Inside Ancient Egypt, the Hall of Jades and Grainger Hall of Gems and a host of other exhibitions on anthropology, botany, geology, and zoology. Also, don’t miss our Underground Adventure exhibition while you’re here.

Are strollers allowed in Tutankhamun?
We apologize for the inconvenience, but no, they are not. There will be an area where strollers can be parked and retrieved after you have finished viewing the exhibition.

Are food and photography allowed in Tutankhamun?
Food and photography are not permitted in the exhibition. Photography is permitted in the Museum’s permanent collections, but guests are asked to eat only in the designated areas.

How long should I plan to spend viewing the exhibition?
We expect most people to spend forty-five minutes to an hour.
|

After I exit Tutankhamun, may I re-enter?
There is no re-entry to the exhibition. However, the hand stamp that you receive when you enter the Museum allows you to come and go from the Museum until the end of the day.

Museum Stores

How many stores are there in the Museum, where are they located, and what hours are they open?
The Main Store is at the south end of Stanley Field Hall, the Sue Store is located on the balcony outside of Evolving Planet, and the Egypt Store is on the ground level near McDonald’s.
All stores are open during all regular Museum hours throughout the run of Tutankhamun. There is also an Exit Store at the end of the exhibition that is open when the exhibition is.

Can I shop online?
Yes, the Online Store can be found on the Museum’s website.

Is there any place else that I can buy Field Museum merchandise?
The Museum also has a store in Terminal 1 at O’Hare Airport.

Do I have to pay to enter the Museum to shop at the stores?
Guests who enter at the South Door can shop in the Main Store without purchasing admission, but the Sue Store, Egypt Store, and Tutankhamun exit store are only accessible to guests who have purchased admission to the Museum.
