The Urban Research Curriculum Transformation Initiative (URCTI) stems from several other urban research efforts carried out by CCUC, which we showcase below. Check out our on-line journal and our on-line ethnography, which was awarded "Best Web Site of 2003" by the Association of American Geographers' Places OnLine.

Journey Through Calumet
Calumet Park Beach

This award-winning urban ethnography investigates diversity, revitalization and local activism, based on over two years of asset based research (2001-2003). Maps, photos and videos tell the stories of how residents are shaping the future of their rapidly changing industrial and ecologically pristine environment.

Perspectives on Civic Activism and City Life
chicago Papers from this published series of occasional papers on urban anthropology are available in PDF form. These issues contain articles from participants in our urban research programs.

Take a look at a map of the various communities CCUC has conducted research in Chicago, and surrounding communities.

Additional Urban Research Resources:
Race White Paper
In the spring of 2003 the Center for Cultural Understanding at Change at The Field Museum hosted a meeting of museum professionals to discuss issues of race, racism and identity, and the role of museums in disseminating related knowledge.
