Summer Late Night

Never have the chance to visit The Field Museum during the day? This summer, explore our new exhibitions and events during evening hours on select dates. We’ll be open later with extended admission until 9 pm, with last admission at 8 pm, on August 1, and September 5. Come by to discover The Field’s vast collection in Specimens: Unlocking the Secrets of Life, get closer to dinosaurs than ever before in Jurassic World: The Exhibition, and experience the ritual, identity, obsession, and art of indelibly marking one’s skin in Tattoo.

Fitness at The Field: The Bar Method

Grab a water bottle and a workout buddy for a series of free outdoor fitness classes at The Field Museum this summer! Fitness at The Field offers a variety of group workouts, including yoga and Zumba, led by local gyms Fitness Formula Clubs South Loop and The Bar Method South Loop. All workouts are free to attend and take place on select Sundays throughout the summer.

Every third Saturday of the month 11am-2pm. Free with Basic admission. The Crown Family PlayLab invites you to join us for Art and Science Spotlight, a special program that brings storytellers, musicians, painters, and other performers to the Museum to meet you and your little one! The Crown Family PlayLab is free with basic admission and is open Thursdays through Mondays from 10am to 4pm, last admission is at 3pm.

Fitness at The Field: Bootcamp

Enjoy fresh food, live music, and lakefront views at a seasonal farmers market in The Field Museum’s own backyard!  Shop produce, prepared foods, craft beer, and other goods offered by local businesses, crafters, and vendors. Field Market Days are free events presented by the Near South Planning Board. Families and all ages are welcome. The farmers market takes place rain or shine on the Museum’s South Terrace on the following Saturdays, 2-6pm:

Birding with The Field at Bemis Woods North

Bemis Woods is a forest preserve just west of Chicago, with forest and forest edge habitat. It is an outstanding forest preserve for birding, with nearly 200 species of birds having been recorded in Bemis and the adjacent forest preserves. These trips are led by Doug Stotz and are co-sponsored by the Chicago Audubon Society.

Bemis Woods is a forest preserve just west of Chicago, with forest and forest edge habitat. It is an outstanding forest preserve for birding, with nearly 200 species of birds having been recorded in Bemis and the adjacent forest preserves. These trips are led by Doug Stotz and are co-sponsored by the Chicago Audubon Society.

Birding with The Field at Perkins Woods

Perkins Woods is a very small forest preserve in Evanston. Despite covering just 7.5 acres, it can have excellent birding during migration, with about 150 species having been recorded there. This trip is led by Josh Engel and John Bates and is co-sponsored by the Evanston North-Shore Bird Club. 

Sensory Saturday

The Crown Family PlayLab at The Field Museum is hosting Sensory Saturdays, a sensory-friendly morning of hands-on exploration and discovery. We understand that some children may have specific sensory processing needs in order to have a great museum experience. So, we are opening the doors of the Crown Family PlayLab one hour early, from 9-10am, to meet the needs of those families. Registration will be capped at 40 guests so that families can enjoy a crowd-free space.

Art and Science Spotlight

The Crown Family PlayLab invites you to join us for Art and Science Spotlight, a special program that brings storytellers, musicians, painters, and other performers to the Museum to meet you and your little one! Skokie Lagoons is a forest preserve along the Chicago River in the northern suburbs. It is a large forest preserve with forest, fields, river, and lagoons. It is excellent for birding year-round, with more than 210 species having been recorded there. These trips are led by Dave Willard and are co-sponsored by the Chicago Audubon Society.  Map of the meeting location

ID Day 2017

Picked up a rock that looks suspiciously like a dinosaur fossil? Snapped a photo of a bright blue bird that you can’t identify? Your annual chance to get a world-renowned scientist’s take on it is coming up on September 23 at The Field Museum’s ID Day.

Field Market Days are free events presented by the Near South Planning Board. Families and all ages are welcome. The farmers market takes place rain or shine on the Museum’s South Terrace on the following Saturdays, 2-6pm:

Dozin' with the Dinos

Families and groups with children ages 6-12: grab your sleeping bags for an overnight stay at the Museum! You’ll explore the Museum by flashlight and see science in action, dissect owl pellets, learn to illustrate specimens, and play instruments from around the world. Groups are welcome, including scouts, schools, churches, community groups, and others. For more information, including merchandise, a sample schedule and FAQs, please see the Overnight Packet.
