Celebrating the Centennial of Gwendolyn Brooks: A Performance by Joffrey Ballet's Exelon Strobel Step Up Program

Free with Basic admission. This performance will take place in James Simpson Theater on Thursday, June 22, a free admission day for Illinois residents. A collaboration sponsored by the Poetry Foundation in partnership with The Joffrey Ballet and the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, presents a year-long series of free public performances to celebrate the life and legacy of poet Gwendolyn Brooks in honor of the 100th anniversary of her birth.

Meet a Scientist

Free with Basic admission. On Fridays from 11am to 1pm, find scientific staff in our new Grainger Science Hub! They'll share wonders from our collections and highlights of their research. Enter from Stanley Field Hall to hear about their work, see real artifacts and specimens from the approximately 30 million objects in The Field Museum's collections, and experience the Museum in new ways.

Field Market Days

Enjoy fresh food, live music, and lakefront views at a seasonal farmers market in The Field Museum’s own backyard!  Shop produce, prepared foods, craft beer, and other goods offered by local businesses, crafters, and vendors. Field Market Days are free events presented by the Near South Planning Board. Families and all ages are welcome. The farmers market takes place rain or shine on the Museum’s South Terrace on the following Saturdays, 2-6pm:

Cinema Science at Wrigley Field: The Jungle Book

This event takes place off-site at The Park at Wrigley Field at 1060 W. Addison in Chicago, and is free and open to the public. Join Sushma Reddy, ornithologist and expert on the Avian Tree of Life, for a free screening of The Jungle Book at the park at Wrigley Field! In The Jungle Book, the man-cub Mowgli flees the jungle after a threat from the tiger Shere Khan. Guided by Bagheera the panther and the bear Baloo, Mowgli embarks on a journey of self-discovery, though he also meets creatures who don't have his best interests at heart.

Sensory Saturday

The Crown Family PlayLab at The Field Museum is hosting Sensory Saturdays, a sensory-friendly morning of hands-on exploration and discovery. We understand that some children may have specific sensory processing needs in order to have a great museum experience. So, we are opening the doors of the Crown Family PlayLab one hour early, from 9-10am, to meet the needs of those families. Registration will be capped at 40 guests so that families can enjoy a crowd-free space.

Eggers Grove is a forest preserve on the southeast side of Chicago, with forests, wetlands, and a lagoon. It is an outstanding forest preserve for birding, with nearly 250 species of birds having been recorded there. These trips are led by Josh Engel and John Bates.
