Have you ever seen a lichen (LIKE-en)? They are all around us. Small, sometimes colorful, and often overlooked, this organism is the coolest thing you never heard of. Follow Field Museum lichenologists Thorsten Lumbsch and Robert Lücking on their research expeditions and enter the fascinating and surprising world of lichens. This tiny organism is the oldest, still-living life form on Earth and can survive anywhere in the world (and even in space!). See how lichens look to lichenologists – magnified and under UV light – and share with us where you’ve seen them to help us discover new species.
