JANRUARY 2011 --The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore (IDNL) is identified as one the top 25 US National Parks in peril due to climate disruption, according to the Rocky Mountain Climate Organization. On January 27th, 2011 more than 25 researchers, scientists, and natural resource managers convened at the IDNL training center to discuss recommendations for a strategic plan being developed for the National Lakeshore by the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA). Topics included natural resource management, research opportunities, and how climate change might be considered in this plan. Scientests from Ecologists from The Field Museum's Division of Environment, Culture, and Conservation (ECCo) presented information on projected climate change impacts to the region and facilitated the discussion. Recommendations will appear in the NPCA strategic plan due to be completed in Summer 2011.
