Rapid Inventory Report #22, Peru: Maijuna
ECCo’s Andes-Amazon team attended the annual meeting of the Maijuna indigenous peoples. We presented our inventory results and distributed copies of the published report. Planning for this inventory began with an urgent request from the Maijuna in July 2009. The results that we distributed in July 2010 are resonating deeply with decision-makers. Approval and final establishment of the new regional conservation area (0.8 million acres) now rest on securing sustainable funds for management of the area. We are talking to potential collaborators, funders, and the regional government of Loreto to find alternatives to protect the reserve.
