About this event

Educators! Don't miss this opportunity to learn about Filipino American History.

In honor of Filipino American History Month and the work of Larry Itliong, join Field Museum community partners for a morning celebrating creativity and solidarity. CIRCA-Pintig will facilitate for attendees a Readerʻs Theatre version of the book Journey for Justice: The Life of Larry Itliong by the late Dawn Bohulano Mabalon and Gayle Romasanta

This brief performance will be followed by a panel discussion with Filipino American entrepreneurs who will talk about their careers – everything from owning a coffee shop to teaching skateboarding – as well as the role community solidarity has played in their work. Students will see how the spirit of Larry Itliongʻs work is alive and well today.

Programming is perfect for students (ages 11 and up), but you do not have to be with a school to enjoy this exciting opportunity. This program also is open to the general public.

Registration will remain open until all spots are filled. Secure your spot now!

Registration is FREE for Illinois schools and to those with museum admission, and participating educators making this event part of their school’s field trip experience will receive a content-related lesson plan. In addition, attendees will be able to submit their questions for the career panel ahead of time.

After the panel, attendees will be encouraged to visit the Grainger Science Hub to hear an anthropologist talk about items from the Museum’s rarely seen Philippines Collection and/or watch a barong tagalog embroidery demonstration.
