Calumet Photographic Dispatches January 2012

Photos document the work of a volunteer day on the edge of the prairie opening at Beaubien Forest Preserve. Although the photos aren't completely aligned, can you see the difference? Invasive woody plants were no match for the busy hands of ecological volunteers. This day, we were amazed to see two bald eagles flying overhead.

Although this photo was taken near LaSalle County west of Chicago, similar combinations of textures, juxtapositions of subtleties/extremes, reveal themselves throughout Calumet.

Be it learning to monitor local frog populations or helping run a chainsaw to cut down invasive buckthorn, there are a multitude of ways to get involved and take care of nature throughout Chicago Wilderness.
