Finding citation elements

Elementsto draft each citation can be found in the downloaded records or in the description of the dataset (i.e. metadata) from which the record originates.

  • [occurrenceID]: in the field occurrenceID in the record. This is the specimen/object GUID. All publicly available Field Museum catalog records have a UUID.
  • [catalogNumber]: in the field catalogNumber in the record plus the Acronym in the OwnerInstitutionCode field. eg FMNH 9631
  • [dataset name]: This is listed as the Resource Citation (under Citations) in the dataset metadata (published as an EML file in a Darwin Core archive) and can also be found under Citation on Field Museum Collections homepages.
  • [data publisher]: Field Museum of Natural History
  • [link to dataset]: in the field [dataSource] in the record. If dataSource is missing\, use the Source URL.
  • [DOI or link to dataset]: If the dataset you are referencing has a valid digital object identifier (DOI) use it in preference to other URLs.
  • [identifier]: in the field “identifier” in the multimedia record. This is the multimedia GUID.  All publicly available Field Museum multimedia records have a UUID.
